Candidate Bio

Franklin Lane is a twenty-two year resident of Aldan, a life long teacher, and an educational activist who believes that an educated citizenry's involvement in government is a mandate from the founding fathers. He supports the idea that it is necessary for a democratic government to represent all of its citizens, not just special interests or elites, and subscribes to the idea that government has an important role in developing the "civic spirit" of a community through beautification programs that in turn enhance property value.

He graduated from Kutztown University, where he majored in History and English. He then earned an MA in Modern European History from Temple University, where he specialized in Russian Intellectual History. He earned credits for Commonwealth Certification as a special education teacher and supervisor from Penn State University.

Frank started his career teaching history at Penn Manor School District in Lancaster County in the early sixties, working with the mentally gifted. He worked in Lancaster City's Model Cities Program in the late sixties, teaching reading through art. During the early seventies he served as Chair of the Liberal Arts Department at the York Academy of Art. In the mid-seventies he moved to Aldan, taught English at, and was the Educational Director of the Columbia School in Philadelphia, an approved private school for exceptional secondary students. In 1979 he was an instructional advisor in the Philadelphia School District, and in 1995 became chairperson of John Bartram High School's Special Education Department. Frank retired in 2001 and began work as a private tutor for students receiving compensatory education, as a tutor for international students, and most recently as a college adjunct instructor. He was awarded the Rose Lindenbaun Award for educational innovation and the William Ross award for outstanding educational service.

He was Secretary of the Independent Democratic Organization of Lancaster County in the 1960's. Recently he served as the Aldan Democratic committee person for the East precinct, helped organize Aldan for Obama, was one of the founding members of the Aldan Democratic Organization, is a member of the American Civil Liberties Union, and was the primary founder of The Clifton/Aldan Station Garden Society.
